Forever

Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU," so that we confidently say, “THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?” Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:5-8

Who in your life is a mentor, a leader, a role model? For me, it's my parents, my grandparents, my Sunday School teachers, and my older sister. I love this passage, and like most of the other passages I've written about, it's underline (sometimes double-underlined) in my Bible. :)

Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have;

This verse was (and is!) a tricky one for me. It's hard to be content, and to have your character free from the love of money. It's a natural and human response to want more... and more... and more.
But God wants us to be content, and thankful for what we have.
One of my biggest struggles used to be being content. I love dolls (if you don't know that already!), and anytime I saw another doll blogger (like me!) reviewing a doll, I'd want the new doll. Every. single. one.
I asked God to help me be more content, and I found that the more I praise and thank Him for what I already have, the more content I am and I don't want more things as much. Yeah, I think it'd be nice to have Nanea, but I'm not DYING for more. I'm glad that I have seven perfectly wonderful dolls!
God really does answer prayer. :D
for He Himself has said, "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,"
I think this is an amazing verse - God promises to never desert or forsake us! That means that in the hard times, good times, fun times, sad times - He is with us. When everyone else is busy, He's waiting for us. He'll listen - whenever. When no one else will listen, He will!
so that we confidently say, “THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?”

He really is our Helper. We have no need to be afraid! With God on our side, who can be against us? He is in control, so whatever happens, He IS.
The first time I wrote 'God is in control' I did it because I knew it in my head. A couple days later, I was really tested. At one point, I just stood there and said over and over, "God is in control." Whenever I started to worry or fret, I'd repeat it: "God is in control." It's comforting to know that even though we have no idea what is going to happen, God does! And He'll never leave us, because He is our helper!
Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.
I am so, so, so thankful and fortunate to have been raised in a Christian home. I have the freedom and privilege to go to church every week to learn from my Sunday school teachers. When I'm at home, my parents and grandparents pour into me the Word of God and teach me. Whenever I read this verse, the ones that come to mind are the following:
- my mother
- my father
- my grandfather
- my grandmother
- my Sunday school teacher
- my previous Sunday school teacher (she moved, sadly. :( )
They have led me in the way I should go, they have spoken the word of God to me, and when I think of them, I think of them as role models and I really want to have the same faith they do! It's so encouraging to have role models that follow God!
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
This has to be one of my favorite verses EVER. Isn't it amazing that He'll never change? HE is the same - always.
